Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, Dean of the College of Science for Women, the Department of Chemistry, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit, organized a scientific workshop titled “Natural Antioxidants and Their Vital Role in Disease Prevention,” presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Khdim Khudair Ghadhab, Professor Dr. Faiha Maqdad Khalil, and Assistant Professor Dr. Asraa Fadel Asker.
The workshop aimed to highlight the importance of natural antioxidants in preventing many chronic diseases, including aging and heart diseases. It also addressed their vital role in protecting cells from damage caused by free radicals.
The workshop focused on explaining how antioxidants affect metabolic reactions within the body and their role in enhancing the health of cells and tissues. Recent research was also discussed, which demonstrated the ability of these antioxidants to boost the immune system and reduce the effects of age-related diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease and diabetes. In conclusion, the importance of consuming antioxidant-rich foods as part of a healthy lifestyle to prevent these diseases was emphasized.
