Brief profile of the College

The College of Science for Women was established on 6/24/2002 after splitting the scientific departments from the College of Education for Women. It is a reliable scientific institution with its own initiatives and programs for women’s education and rehabilitation so they may occupy the right position in the process of development and all-encompassing building.

The Mission

Preparing female graduates who possess a solid academic level, extensive practical experience, and personal skills that qualify them to keep up with scientific and technological developments and engage in various fields of work, to become successful leaders in both work and society.

The Objective

    1. Adoption of the academic system and curricula that achieve the sober scientific level that distinguishes international institutions.
    2. Improving the level of postgraduate studies and scientific research to address challenges and contribute to the development of developmental, environmental, economic, and social programs.
    3. Enhancing attention to women’s rights and working on qualifying them for their leadership role in work, family, and society.
    4. Adopting modern methods, means, and sources of learning.
    5. Implementing educational programs that support self-confidence, develop mental abilities, and stimulate ambition to achieve success in personal and practical life.
    6. Organizing extra-curricular activities that contribute to the development of the student’s personality. Promote virtuous moral principles, develop a sense of responsibility and a spirit of cooperation, and contribute to community service.
    7. Activating the role of continuing education in developing the capabilities and skills of the faculty members, and in order to achieve communication with state and community institutions.
    8. Developing the scientific journal issued by the college to reach the level of reputable international journals.
    9. Building partnerships and scientific cooperation with colleges and scientific institutions inside and outside Iraq.
    10. Developing and updating the college administrative system to keep up with the advanced systems of managing scientific institutions, to make the college a scientific institution that supports the aspects of strength and diversity in higher education institutions in Iraq.

College and its departments and the certificates it awarded.

 First: The college includes the following scientific departments for morning and evening study:

  1. Department of Computer Science.

  2. Department of Biology Sciences.

  3. Department of Chemistry Sciences.

  4. Department of Physics Sciences.

  5. Department of Mathematics Sciences.

Second: The college’s study system, which began in the academic year 2010–2011 and was implemented for students accepted in the first grade, is a quarterly system.

Third: Preliminary study in college for four years

  1. In the morning study, a Bachelor of Science degree is awarded in the following specializations:

    • Bachelor’s degrees in biological sciences.

    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science.

    • Chemistry Bachelor of Science.

    • Bachelor of Science in Physics in the morning study, Bachelor of Science in Medical Physics in the evening study.

    • Bachelor of Science in Mathematics.

  2. In the evening studies, a bachelor’s degree is awarded in sciences in these disciplines as well, with the exception of the Physics Department, which grants a bachelor’s degree in medical physics.

  3. Master’s degree:

  • A master’s degree is awarded in sciences in:

  • The following areas of biological sciences are available for a master’s degree: (Botany, Zoology, Genetics, Ecology, Microbiology).

  • Chemistry sciences includes the following specializations:

(organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, industrial chemistry, life chemistry).

  • Physics sciences includes the following specializations:

(Theoretical and molecular physics, nuclear and environmental physics, laser physics and optics, solid state physics and materials.

  1. Doctor of Philosophy degree :

The Doctor of Philosophy degree is awarded in the Department of Biological Sciences for the following specializations:

  • (Botany, Zoology, Genetics, Ecology, Microbiology) Doctorate of Philosophy degrees are also awarded to the Departments of Chemistry and Physics as well.
