Master’s Discussion
The College of Science for Women, University of Baghdad, discussed the Master’s thesis entitled “Whole Genome Sequencing of Carbapenem Resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae Locally isolated from patients with Urinary Tract Infections” submitted by the student )Hejran Mohsen Meshjel (in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Biology / Microbiology, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Safaa Al-Deen Ahamed Shanter.
- The thesis aimed to investigate the phenotypic and genotypic traits of Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates collected from patients infected with UTIs in Baghdad, Iraq, with a particular focus on antimicrobial resistance patterns and genomic profiling using (Whole-genome sequencing (WGS).

The study recommends continuous surveillance of antimicrobial resistance among Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates, the rational use of antibiotics to limit the emergence and spread of resistant strains, and the expanded implementation of whole-genome sequencing (WGS) in epidemiological studies and infection control programs due to its ability to provide comprehensive insights into antimicrobial resistance mechanisms, virulence factors, and genomic diversity.
The average obtained was excellent.
