Under the patronage of the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, and under the slogan “Awareness Today… Sustainability for Tomorrow… Invest in Your Environment,” the Department of Biology organized the activities of Sustainable University Week.
As part of the program, a Mobile Planetarium was hosted in the presence of the Dean, the Assistant Deans, the Head of the Department of Biology, and a number of faculty members. The planetarium provided an engaging and interactive scientific presentation introducing participants to the galaxy, its components, and the planets, while highlighting the latest developments in astronomy and space science. Particular emphasis was placed on the significance of remote sensing technologies in Earth observation, their role in protecting ecosystems, monitoring environmental and climatic changes, and supporting global efforts aimed at environmental conservation and climate resilience.
The event also included a variety of artistic and educational activities in which students participated by creating drawings of planets, stars, and galaxies. This initiative was designed to foster creativity and strengthen the integration of art and science. In addition, a collection of scientific posters was exhibited, addressing key concepts of sustainable development and emphasizing their importance in preserving natural resources and maintaining ecological balance.
Furthermore, Sustainable University Week featured a series of complementary activities, including awareness workshops on climate change and its impact on biodiversity, specialized scientific lectures on environmental sustainability and natural resource management, and sessions promoting the rational use of water and energy resources within the university campus.
This initiative is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 13: Climate Action, as it contributes to raising awareness of the importance of addressing climate change through education and environmental outreach. It also highlights the role of scientific research in developing innovative solutions to environmental challenges.
The activities concluded with an emphasis on the importance of continuing to organize such scientific and awareness-raising programs, given their significant role in preparing a generation that is well-informed about environmental and sustainable development issues and capable of contributing effectively to the creation of a more sustainable future.
