Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Sports Activities Unit, organized a scientific workshop entitled “Sports for Sustainable Human Development.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Najat Baqir Mashkoor and Ms. Dalia Majeed Hameed.

The workshop addressed the concept of sustainable human development and its relationship with sports as one of the fundamental pillars contributing to the formation of a balanced individual physically and psychologically. It highlighted the role of physical activity in improving public health, enhancing physical fitness, and preventing a range of chronic diseases. The workshop also discussed the impact of sports on developing essential life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and responsibility.

Furthermore, the session emphasized the importance of integrating sports activities into daily university programs and promoting a culture of physical exercise among students, thereby contributing to achieving a balance between academic and health-related dimensions. It also underscored the role of sports in supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and enhancing quality of life.

The workshop concluded by stressing the importance of developing students’ and researchers’ awareness of sports and health-related practices, given their vital role in promoting sustainable human development and improving the overall quality of life within the university community.
