Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry, organized a scientific workshop entitled “Biosafety and Laboratory Ethics in Biochemistry Laboratories.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Areej Shawkat Hameed, Ms. Sinaa Aboud, and Ms. Suha Nasr, with the participation of a number of faculty members and students interested in laboratory-based work.

The workshop addressed the concepts of biosafety and their importance in laboratory environments, with particular emphasis on the preventive procedures that must be followed when handling chemical and biological materials, in order to ensure the protection of individuals and the environment from potential hazards. It also highlighted laboratory ethics, including adherence to professional standards, respect for scientific research regulations, and the maintenance of accuracy and credibility in experimental results.

The presenters further reviewed best practices in laboratory management, mechanisms for responding to emergency incidents, and the importance of fostering a culture of awareness and responsibility among students and researchers during scientific experimentation. These measures contribute to establishing a safe, well-organized, and responsible working environment.

The workshop concluded by emphasizing the necessity of adhering to biosafety protocols and laboratory ethical standards, given their essential role in supporting scientific research and enhancing the quality and integrity of performance within scientific laboratories.
