Under the patronage of the respected Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry, organized a scientific workshop entitled “Biochemistry in Food and Nutrition.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Areej Shawkat Hameed, Ms. Sinaa Aboud, and Ms. Hanan Kadhim Talal.
The workshop aimed to highlight the vital role of biochemistry in understanding the components of food and their effects on human health. It addressed several key topics, including the chemical composition of essential nutrients such as proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids, as well as the mechanisms through which these nutrients interact within the human body. In addition, the workshop emphasized the importance of vitamins and minerals in supporting physiological functions and maintaining nutritional balance.
Furthermore, the workshop explored the relationship between proper nutrition and public health, as well as the impact of dietary habits on disease prevention. Particular attention was given to the role of biochemistry in explaining the processes of digestion, nutrient absorption, and energy production within the body. The workshop also discussed the importance of selecting healthy foods based on scientific principles and promoting nutritional awareness among students, thereby contributing to the improvement of their lifestyle and overall well-being.
