Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Scientific Affairs Division, in cooperation with the Department of Chemistry, organized a series of scientific workshops as part of the activities of Sustainable University Week. The workshops were held on Monday, 20 April 2026, in the Conference Hall and were attended by a number of faculty members, administrative staff, and students of the College.
The program commenced with a workshop entitled “The Relationship Between Chemistry and the Environment,” presented by Professor Dr. Nasser Diaa Shalaan. The workshop addressed the close connection between the science of chemistry and various environmental components, illustrating how chemical reactions contribute to the explanation of numerous environmental phenomena, including air, water, and soil pollution. The presenter also highlighted the role of chemistry in detecting and analyzing pollutants and in employing modern technologies to mitigate their adverse effects. Furthermore, the workshop emphasized the significance of green chemistry in reducing harmful emissions and maintaining environmental balance.
Subsequently, a second workshop entitled “The Role of Chemistry in Achieving Environmental Sustainability” was delivered by Dr. Inaam Hussein Ali. The presentation focused on the application of chemical principles to support sustainability concepts through the development of environmentally friendly materials, the enhancement of natural resource utilization efficiency, and the reduction of industrial waste.
The workshops witnessed active engagement from attendees, who participated through scientific discussions, questions, and interventions. The presenters provided comprehensive explanations and responses, contributing to a productive and interactive academic environment.
