Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Continuing Education Unit organized a workshop entitled “Introduction to Email”, presented by Mr. Haider Mohammed Abdul Hadi.
The workshop aimed to equip participants with fundamental knowledge of email usage and to raise awareness about its importance in both daily and professional life. It sought to enhance digital skills amidst the rapid digital transformation occurring globally.
The workshop provided a comprehensive overview of the concept and history of email, illustrating how it has become a primary tool for both personal and professional communication in the digital age. It included practical demonstrations on how to create email accounts on the most commonly used platforms—Gmail and Outlook—with detailed walkthroughs of the main interfaces and an explanation of essential features such as the inbox, sent items, drafts, and trash folders.
A key focus of the workshop was teaching participants how to compose an effective and clear email message. Emphasis was placed on essential elements such as an appropriate subject line, proper salutation, concise and clear content, and a professional signature. It also addressed how to attach files, documents, and images, and highlighted the importance of safe email practices. Participants were warned about phishing attacks and suspicious links that may compromise user privacy and data security.
During the practical segment, attendees were given the opportunity to apply their learning by creating personal email accounts and sending test emails to practice and avoid common mistakes.
This initiative is part of a broader series of training programs launched by the college to promote digital literacy and basic technological competencies, particularly among groups with limited prior exposure to modern digital tools. Future workshops are expected to cover diverse areas including cloud computing, information security, and smartphone applications.
The workshop contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 4: “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.” It helps participants acquire the technical and vocational skills necessary for securing employment, decent work, and fostering entrepreneurship.
