Under the patronage of the respected Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim , the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Chemistry, organized a workshop entitled “Chemical Materials Involved in Non-Surgical Cosmetic Procedures.”

The workshop was presented by Ms. Maryam Thaer Saadi and Ms. Iftikhar Ahmed Hussein. It aimed to shed light on the chemical composition of materials used in modern non-surgical cosmetic techniques, clarify their scientific properties and biological effects, and enhance participants’ scientific awareness regarding the proper handling of these substances and understanding their mechanisms of action to ensure health safety and achieve the desired outcomes.

The workshop included a detailed explanation of common chemical compounds such as hyaluronic acid, botulinum toxin (Botox)
, and dermal fillers, highlighting the chemical differences among them and the specific applications of each. It also addressed the applied aspects of cosmetic chemistry and emphasized the importance of selecting high-quality materials that meet standard specifications to avoid side effects and complications.

The workshop concluded by stressing that a deep understanding of the chemical properties of these materials constitutes the fundamental basis for safe cosmetic practices, and that advancement in this field depends directly on innovations in chemical science. This workshop was part of a series of scientific activities aimed at linking academic sciences with contemporary practical applications and promoting specialized scientific culture within the university community.
