Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Girls, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim , the Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry, organized a workshop entitled “Waste Recycling and Its Impact on Reducing Environmental Pollution” on Monday, 23-2-2026, at the Hospitality Hall. The workshop was attended by a number of faculty members, staff, and students and was presented by Dr. Enas Abdul-Hussein and Dr. Amira Hassan Hamad.
The workshop aimed to highlight the importance of waste recycling as an effective means of environmental preservation and pollution reduction, in addition to minimizing the consumption of raw materials, while also emphasizing the economic opportunities this sector provides and its contribution to supporting sustainable growth.
The lectures defined recycling as the process of converting used materials into new, usable materials, encompassing the collection and sorting of items such as plastics, paper, metals, glass, and organic waste. The workshop also outlined its role in reducing pollution and limiting emissions by decreasing the need for natural resource extraction and lowering energy consumption. Furthermore, the workshop addressed the role of individuals and communities in promoting a recycling culture through raising environmental awareness, encouraging waste separation, and participating in community initiatives. The sessions witnessed active and positive engagement between the attendees and the presenters.
