Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, Dean of the College of Science for Women, the Department of Chemistry, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit, organized an awareness workshop titled “Causes of Bullying and Its Treatment.” The workshop was presented by Ms. Israa Hamoud Ibrahim, Ms. Zahra Abdul Mahdi Jaber, and Ms. Iftikhar Ahmed Tahseen.
The workshop addressed several important topics, reviewing the concept of bullying and its different types, whether verbal, physical, or electronic. It also discussed the psychological and social factors that lead to bullying behaviors in certain individuals. Key reasons identified include the lack of sufficient awareness, unstable family environments, weak social skills, and the influence of media and social media in reinforcing aggressive behaviors.
The workshop further examined the psychological and behavioral effects of bullying on victims, such as declining academic performance, low self-esteem, and feelings of isolation and depression. In this context, the importance of psychological and social support from friends, family, and close individuals for those affected by bullying was emphasized.
A series of solutions and strategies to help reduce and address the phenomenon of bullying were proposed during the workshop. These included promoting a culture of dialogue and tolerance, activating psychological counseling programs within the college, and organizing ongoing awareness campaigns about bullying behaviors and how to deal with them.
At the end of the workshop, a discussion session was opened, allowing attendees to share their opinions and personal experiences. This interactive and impactful exchange emphasized the importance of repeating such events, recognizing their significant role in spreading awareness and promoting positive behavior within the university community.
