Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, Dean of the College of Science for Women, the Continuing Education Unit organized a workshop entitled “The English Language and Its Geographic Applications”, presented by Ms. Huda Qasim Hamzah and Ms. Lina Nasser Dheyaa .
The workshop aimed to highlight the vital role that the English language plays in enhancing academic and research-based geographic understanding. This includes its use in analyzing geographic data, comprehending modern terminology, and accessing global sources.
The session also discussed the importance of English in supporting scientific communication with international institutions, benefiting from global expertise published in peer-reviewed academic journals, and its application in interpreting digital maps and environmental reports. Additionally, the workshop provided training for female students and researchers on how to use specialized geographic software—such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing tools—which heavily rely on English for effective utilization.
