Under the patronage of Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, Dean of the College of Science for Women, the Rehabilitation and Employment Unit organized a workshop titled “Sustainable Development.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Asmaa Abdulhussein Mohammed, Ms. Hadeel Hussein Nasseef, and Ms. Saja Iyad Qamar.
The workshop aimed to equip students with the essential knowledge and skills needed to understand and apply the principles of sustainable development in both their academic and professional lives. It highlighted the importance of sustainable development as a core component in achieving genuine progress across various sectors at the economic, social, and environmental levels, in alignment with global sustainable development goals.
The workshop addressed the application of these concepts in future projects and daily life, while also introducing the key challenges faced by societies today in their pursuit of sustainable development. These challenges include issues such as climate change, natural resource management, social justice, and how to integrate these matters into future development strategies.
Additionally, the workshop explored the opportunities that sustainable development offers in the field of entrepreneurship and how students can become part of sustainable solutions through innovative projects that contribute to improving the environment and serving the community. It also emphasized the importance of applying sustainable knowledge in the labor market and business sectors and highlighted the need for collaboration between the public and private sectors to achieve sustainable development goals.
The workshop also provided insights into the relevant international frameworks for sustainable development, particularly the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and their role in guiding efforts toward building a more sustainable global community.
This workshop is part of the efforts of the Rehabilitation and Employment Unit to provide students with the necessary tools to actively contribute to achieving sustainable development by raising awareness, fostering critical thinking on environmental and social issues, and encouraging them to take practical steps towards building a balanced future that harmonizes the needs of the present with the aspirations of future generations.
