Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Mathematics, organized a workshop entitled “Mathematics and Scientific Thinking: A Partnership for Shaping the Future.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Shaimaa Abbas Jasim and Ms. Israa Abbas Ibrahim. It was held in Abdul Hakim Hall and attended by a number of faculty members, staff, and students.

The workshop highlighted the importance of mathematics as the language of science and a fundamental tool for understanding natural and technological phenomena. It emphasized the role of mathematics in developing an organized mindset based on critical thinking and problem-solving, which constitutes a cornerstone of success in various academic and professional fields.

The presenters discussed the complementary relationship between mathematics and scientific thinking, explaining how mathematical concepts contribute to the development of evidence-based decision-making skills, data analysis capabilities, and the ability to address contemporary challenges through a systematic and rigorous approach. The workshop further demonstrated that the significance of mathematics extends beyond theoretical study to encompass its broad applications in diverse fields, including technology, engineering, economics, and medical sciences. This makes mathematics an essential component in building a future founded on knowledge, innovation, and sustainable development.

The workshop aimed to enhance students’ awareness of the importance of mathematics in their academic pursuits and everyday lives, while encouraging them to adopt scientific methods of thinking in their studies. Such efforts contribute to preparing a generation capable of keeping pace with scientific and technological advancements and effectively responding to future challenges.
