Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Prof. Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Department of Biology , in cooperation with the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, organized a workshop entitled “Reducing Bullying” as part of a series of meetings held by the department’s Educational Guidance Committee.
The workshop was held in the Department of Biology and was presented by Dr. Salah Khairi Jaber, with the attendance of a number of the department’s faculty members and students.
The workshop aimed to clarify the concept of bullying as a repeated aggressive behavior practiced to harm others. It addressed its various forms, including:
Physical bullying, such as hitting and pushing; Verbal bullying, including mocking and insults; Psychological and social bullying, such as isolation and spreading rumors; Cyberbullying, which occurs through social media platforms.
The workshop also discussed the negative effects of bullying on individuals and society, including low self-confidence, anxiety, stress, and poor academic performance, in addition to its impact on the academic climate and educational environment.
The lecturer emphasized that understanding the causes of bullying and its psychological and social dimensions is a fundamental step toward addressing it and building a safe educational environment. He also highlighted the importance of early detection of bullying cases and the role of psychological counseling in supporting affected students.
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants exchanged opinions and comments on real-life experiences, affirming the importance of holding such workshops to enhance awareness and deepen understanding of the psychological and social dimensions of bullying within the university community.
