Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Women’s Affairs Unit organized a workshop entitled “From Pain to Hope: Supporting Women in Facing Family Challenges.” The workshop was presented by Mrs. Rasha Hussein Al-Jubouri, a family and psychological consultant, and held in the college’s conference hall. It was attended by Dr. Shaimaa Saleh Mahdi, Head of the Women’s Affairs Unit, along with a number of faculty members and administrative staff.
At the beginning of the session, the lecturer explained that the family represents the fundamental structure of society. It consists of a group of individuals connected by marital, kinship, or adoptive ties who live together in one household and share responsibilities as well as emotional, social, and economic relationships. She went on to highlight the primary causes of emotional distress and pain among women, including life pressures, women’s responsibilities toward their families and child-rearing, economic burdens, lack of sufficient support, and inadequate appreciation from spouses and relatives.
The workshop also addressed the consequences of these challenges, such as women’s exposure to psychological disorders like depression, anxiety, loss of self-confidence, social withdrawal, and strained relationships with their children. The speaker emphasized the importance of finding timely solutions through the provision of family and professional support, in addition to raising awareness of these issues.
The workshop concluded with an open discussion between the attendees and the organizers of the event.
