Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, Dean of the College of Science for Women, the Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry, organized a scientific workshop entitled “Mendeley: Your Practical Guide to Reference Management and Research Writing.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Laila Othman Farhan and Dr. Noor Al-Huda Ghazi Mohammed Hubaid.

The workshop aimed to introduce participants to Mendeley as one of the most important modern reference management tools for organizing and managing scholarly resources. It highlighted the software’s significance in supporting researchers throughout the process of preparing scientific manuscripts and academic publications.

The workshop included a practical demonstration of how to create a digital reference library, organize and categorize references efficiently, and facilitate quick retrieval of scientific sources. It also explained the procedures for inserting in-text citations according to internationally recognized citation styles and for automatically generating accurate reference lists.

Furthermore, the presenters demonstrated how to integrate Mendeley with word-processing software such as Microsoft Word, thereby streamlining the research writing process and reducing common errors in academic referencing and citation. The workshop also emphasized the role of reference management software in improving the quality of scientific research and strengthening the academic writing skills of students and researchers.

The workshop concluded by reaffirming the importance of developing students’ and researchers’ competencies in the use of modern reference management technologies and research writing tools. Such digital resources play a vital role in supporting scientific research, enhancing the quality of scholarly publications, and promoting excellence in academic writing.
