Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim , the Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Student Activities Division, organized a training course entitled “Physical Fitness and Healthy Nutrition.” The course was presented by Dr. Najat Baqir Mashkoor in the Student Activities Hall on Sunday, September 28, 2025, with the participation of a number of the college’s staff members and students.

The course commenced by emphasizing the importance of engaging in sports activities to achieve physical fitness and its direct impact on daily performance, as well as its role in recreation and alleviating life’s burdens and responsibilities. Sports activities were highlighted as essential in promoting both physical and mental well-being.

The course further addressed the health benefits of regular exercise, particularly in strengthening the heart, respiratory, and circulatory systems. It also underscored the necessity of adopting a balanced and healthy diet that corresponds to one’s age and physical condition, alongside conducting the necessary medical examinations and consulting physicians before beginning any specific diet plan. This approach ensures a balance between proper nutrition and physical activity to achieve optimal health outcomes.

The program included a practical session featuring a series of physical exercises in which students actively participated, with the aim of motivating them to adopt sports as a lifestyle. The course reaffirmed the adage that “a sound mind resides in a sound body” and stressed that maintaining general health is a top priority for reducing disease risks with advancing age.

In conclusion, Dr. Najat Baqir emphasized that organizing such activities contributes to encouraging students to commit to regular physical exercise, thereby achieving higher levels of overall health, vitality, and academic performance.
