Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, and in collaboration with Al-Tafawuq Al-Ilmi Company for Training and Development (the exclusive agent of BGI China in Iraq), the College organized a specialized workshop entitled: “Applications of NGS in Genomic Sciences,” with the participation of faculty members, researchers, and postgraduate students.

The workshop aimed to highlight the most prominent applications of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology in genomic sciences, its role in diagnosing genetic disorders, analyzing genetic diversity, and studying gene expression. It also addressed its applications in environmental fields, such as microbiome studies, biodiversity monitoring, and the use of metagenomics for analyzing complex microbial communities.

The event featured a specialized lecture on the services provided by BGI China in the field of NGS technologies, delivered by the company’s representative. The lecture included an overview of the latest platforms and tools used in this field, followed by scientific discussions with the participants exploring the prospects of employing these technologies in academic, medical, and environmental research.

The College administration emphasized that organizing this workshop aligns with the College’s commitment to strengthening scientific partnerships with reputable institutions and keeping pace with global advancements, thereby contributing to the development of local expertise and supporting researchers and students in the fields of life sciences, genomics, and environmental applications.
