Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Physics, organized a training course entitled “Scientific Research in the World of Yandex: Secrets and Techniques for Effective Content Discovery.” The course was presented by Dr. Zainab Hussam Mousa, Ms. Mervat Dawood Majeed, and Ms. Dohaa Kareem Harfesh from the Department of Physics. It was held in Dr. Amina’s Hall within the department and attended by a number of faculty members, staff, and students. The course began with an introduction to Yandex, highlighting it as the largest search engine in Russia and one of the most prominent globally, following Google and Bing. Yandex is known for its advanced indexing capabilities and artificial intelligence technologies, and it offers a range of services similar to those of Google, such as Yandex.Mail, Yandex.Maps, and Yandex.Translate. It was established in 1997.One of Yandex’s key features is its highly professional method of organizing and ranking search results, giving priority to diverse sources. This allows researchers to discover new information effectively. The platform also includes Yandex Scholar, a service akin to Google Scholar, which enables users to access research papers, master’s theses, and resources in the Russian language. Yandex also offers highly accurate translation services to and from Russian, making it particularly beneficial for researchers in general, and for those specializing in Russian content in particular. The course included a detailed explanation of how to create an account on Yandex using a Gmail email address, enabling participants to access its full range of services. The platform supports multiple languages and can be translated into English or Arabic, facilitating ease of use. Its search results are organized and structured, presenting key details such as page titles, content snippets, direct links, and publication dates. All components of the course were demonstrated through practical application and a presentation, guiding attendees step by step on how to navigate the search engine and use its tools professionally for optimal benefit. The Yandex interface was displayed and noted for its simplicity and resemblance to Google’s interface. Results are categorized (e.g., text, images, videos, etc.) for efficient browsing. It is worth mentioning that this training course spans three days and includes hands-on practical sessions for the participants.
