As part of an encouraging initiative aimed at fostering the scientific and research potential of the college’s students, the Deanery of the College of Science for Women honored outstanding students from the Department of Chemistry. The event was presided over by the Dean, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, in the presence of the Associate Dean for Scientific and Student Affairs, Dr. Yusra Abdul Sahib Saif Al-Din, the Head of the Chemistry Department, Dr. Ameen Hadi Mohammed, and the Department Rapporteur, Ms. Soha Nasr Fadel, on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

During the ceremony, fourteen certificates of appreciation were awarded to fourth-stage students whose graduation projects were selected as the best across the department’s various specializations. The evaluation process was based on rigorous scientific standards, including originality, methodology, and the practical applicability of the research.

Student Marwa Alawi Hanoun received first place in the overall evaluation for her research in the field of physical chemistry. Her project was entitled “Study of Carbon Steel Alloy Protection Using a Pharmaceutical Compound as a Corrosion Inhibitor in a Saline Medium.” The study examined the effectiveness of Tolp drug as a corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel submerged in a 3.5% NaCl solution. The results demonstrated the compound’s ability to reduce corrosion rates through a molecular adsorption mechanism on the metal surface, thereby opening new prospects for employing pharmaceutical substances in environmentally friendly industrial applications.

The event concluded with commemorative photos of the college administration and the honored students, in an atmosphere filled with pride and celebration of their achievements. The college and department reaffirmed their ongoing commitment to supporting academic and research excellence among their students.
