Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Women’s Affairs Unit organized an awareness seminar entitled “Breast Cancer and Methods of Prevention.” The seminar was presented by Dr. Haider Al-Tamimi from the Breast Cancer Center / Health and Medical Education Authority, and Dr. Kawakeb Najm Al-Din from the National Center for Cancer Research.

The seminar was attended by the Head of the Women’s Affairs Unit, Dr. Shaimaa Saleh Mahdi, alongside several faculty members, staff, and students from the college. This event falls within the framework of enhancing health awareness among women.

The seminar aimed to shed light on cancer, with a specific focus on recent developments related to breast cancer, its prevalence, risk factors, as well as the latest methods of early detection and treatment approaches adopted in specialized medical centers.

Key topics discussed during the seminar included recent statistics on breast cancer incidence at both local and global levels, contributing factors such as genetics, aging, unhealthy lifestyle choices, and psychological stress. The session also reviewed early detection techniques such as self-examination, clinical screening, and mammography.

Additionally, the latest advances in surgical, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and immunotherapy treatments were presented, along with preventive strategies and the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle. The seminar emphasized the vital role of early detection in reducing disease progression and increasing recovery rates, highlighting the need to promote a culture of prevention among women of all ages.

The event witnessed strong engagement from attendees through questions and discussions, which contributed to deepening the collective understanding of the disease’s risks and management strategies.
