Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, Dean of the College of Science for Women, the Department of Chemistry held a workshop entitled “Domestic Violence and Its Impact on Women”, presented by Asst. Prof. Esraa Hammoud Ibrahim, Dr. Mina Mohammed Faris, and Ms. Marwa Hameed.
The workshop addressed various forms of domestic violence that women are subjected to, whether psychological, physical, or economic, and examined the effects of such practices on women’s psychological, physical, and social well-being. It also explored the social and cultural factors contributing to the spread of domestic violence, emphasizing the crucial role of educational, media, and legal institutions in raising awareness on this issue.
Important contributions were made regarding the long-term consequences of domestic violence on women, families, and society at large. The workshop also highlighted the legal mechanisms available to protect women from violence and discussed preventive measures that can be adopted to support victims and empower them to reclaim their active roles within society.
The workshop witnessed significant engagement from the attendees through discussions and questions that reflected the importance of the topic. This event is part of the college’s ongoing efforts to support human rights issues and promote women’s empowerment within the community.
