Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Department of Chemistry held a workshop entitled “The Impact of Detergents on Women’s Health”. The workshop was presented by Ms. Israa Hammoud Ibrahim, Ms. Zahraa Abdul Mahdi, and Ms. Israa Amer Kadhem.
The workshop aimed to promote health awareness among women and highlight the effects of chemical substances found in household detergents on women’s health, due to their frequent exposure during domestic chores. The session addressed the health risks associated with these chemicals, such as skin inflammations, allergies, and respiratory disorders.
Emphasis was placed on the importance of reading product ingredients and following safety measures during usage, including wearing gloves and masks and ensuring proper ventilation while cleaning. The workshop also presented natural and environmentally friendly alternatives to harsh chemical detergents.
The session witnessed active engagement from the attendees, reflecting the significance of the topic. It concluded with a set of recommendations encouraging public awareness on the safe use of detergents and the necessity of developing regulations to limit the use of harmful substances in household products.
