Under the patronage of Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, Dean of the College of Science for Women, the Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Student Activities Unit, organized a workshop titled “Lower Back Pain,” presented by Dr. Najat Baqir Mashkur and Ms. Ghufran Zaid Aziz.
The workshop aimed to highlight the importance of maintaining body health, especially since many women face physical issues that impact their mental well-being and lead to a decrease in positive energy. One of the most common of these issues is lower back pain, which can occur for various reasons, including general lack of physical fitness, carrying heavy weights, particularly during household tasks, and failing to perform warm-up exercises before engaging in physical activity, which may result in muscle strain and back pain. Additionally, sudden movements while sitting or standing, which affect the spine, can cause sharp pain.
The presenters also emphasized the importance of lifting objects correctly by keeping them close to the body’s center of gravity to reduce pressure on the lumbar vertebrae.
The workshop included a practical session where demonstrations were given to the attendees to raise awareness on how to prevent back pain and improve spinal health.
