Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women , Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry Sciences, organized a scientific workshop titled “Phytochemical Compounds: Structure and Biological Activity.”
The workshop was presented by Associate Professor Dr. Khdim Khudair Ghadeeb, Professor Dr. Faiha Makdad Khalil, and Associate Professor Dr. Asraa Fadhil Asker. The aim of the workshop was to review a range of chemical compounds produced by plants and their biological effects, highlighting the chemical structure of these compounds and how they interact with the environment surrounding the plant. The workshop also discussed the role of phytochemical compounds in defending plants against pests and diseases, as well as their potential effects on other living organisms, including humans. Several examples were provided on the biological activity of these compounds in both traditional and modern medicine, as well as their impact on improving human health and treating certain diseases.
