Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women , Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Department of Biology , in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit, organized a scientific workshop titled “Different Carbon Sources in Aquatic Ecosystems”.
The workshop was presented by Dr. Mohammad Abdul-Ridha Hamdan and Ms. Tara Asu Taher.
The goal of the workshop was to review the diverse roles of carbon sources in aquatic environments and how they affect ecological balance. It also aimed to analyze both organic and inorganic carbon sources, including decomposed plant and animal materials, as well as dissolved carbon in water. Additionally, the workshop discussed the impact of carbon on biodiversity in aquatic environments and how living organisms interact with these different sources, particularly in relation to nutritional composition and nutrient cycling in the ecosystem.
