Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women , Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Department of Biology organized a scientific workshop titled “The Role of Microorganisms in Food,” presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aliaa Mohammed Abdulhadi, Dr. Nadia Imad Tariq, and Dr. Altifat Fadel Shahada.
The workshop aimed to highlight the importance of microorganisms, such as bacteria and fungi, in various aspects of the food industry, whether in fermentation, decomposition, or health effects. The focus was on the role of these organisms in improving the quality of food products. The workshop also covered how microorganisms are used in the production of foods like dairy, cheese, and beverages, as well as methods for handling microorganisms to ensure food safety and protect against contaminants and foodborne diseases.
