Under the sponsorship of the Dean of the College of Science for Women , Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry, organized a workshop titled “Essential Vitamins for Pregnant Women.” The workshop was presented by Ms. Suha Nasr, Ms. Marwa Raad, and Ms. Huda Sahab.
The aim of the workshop was to highlight the importance of essential vitamins and minerals needed by pregnant women during pregnancy. It discussed the vital role of these elements in supporting the health of both the mother and the fetus, and examined the impact of vitamin deficiencies on mental and physical development. The workshop also addressed the positive effects of these vitamins on the health of the pregnant woman, including improving energy levels, enhancing bone health, and treating depression and anxiety. Among the key vitamins and minerals highlighted were iron, which helps prevent anemia; folic acid, which contributes to reducing the risk of birth defects; vitamin D, which supports calcium absorption; magnesium, which helps regulate blood sugar levels and muscle health; and zinc, which boosts immunity and supports proper fetal development. Additionally, the benefits of fish oil in supporting brain and nerve development in the fetus were discussed, emphasizing the importance of proper nutrition during this crucial stage of life.
