Under the patronage of Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, Dean of the College of Science for Women , the Rehabilitation and Employment Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Chemistry Sciences, organized a scientific workshop titled “Chemistry, Environment, and Life.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Inas Abdul Hussein, Dr. Sana’a Tariq, and Dr. Amira Hassan.
The workshop aimed to highlight the positive impact of chemistry on the environment and life, emphasizing its close relationship with living organisms. It stressed the role of chemistry in understanding environmental processes such as pollution, climate change, and the decomposition of organic materials. It also discussed how living organisms depend on chemical interactions with the environment for survival, such as the process of photosynthesis in plants.
The workshop further emphasized the importance of maintaining chemical balance in the environment to ensure the sustainability of life, and the necessity for chemistry to serve the environment by developing innovative technologies to reduce pollution, promote sustainable energy, and protect natural resources. It also focused on finding natural solutions and alternatives to harmful chemicals resulting from industrial, agricultural, and medical waste, while achieving the sustainable development goals related to preserving the environment, industry, and innovation.
