Under the patronage of Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Dean of the College of Science for Women, the Department of Computer Science, in collaboration with the Psychological Guidance and Educational Counseling Unit, organized an awareness workshop titled “Biology of Addiction.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Mehdi Saleh Blasim, the Director of the National Drug Control Program at the Ministry of Health, with the attendance of Dr. Yousra Abdul Sadiq, the Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs, along with several faculty members, staff, and students from the college.
The aim of the workshop was to enhance individuals’ understanding of the biological nature and psychological factors related to addiction, which promotes awareness and encourages the adoption of effective preventive and therapeutic steps. The workshop covered various aspects of addiction from biological, psychological, and social perspectives. It discussed how addiction affects both individuals and society, and how to confront and manage it. A detailed explanation was provided on how drugs work in the human body and their negative impact on the performance and functionality of nerve and sensory cells.
