Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Samira Naji Kazem, Dean of the College of Science for Women, the Media and Government Communication Division, in collaboration with the Rehabilitation and Employment Unit, organized an awareness seminar titled “Cyberbullying.” The seminar was presented by a distinguished group of members from the Community Police Directorate at the Ministry of Interior, including Colonel Walid Sharaf, Lieutenant Colonel Basma Mazal, and others.
The seminar aimed to introduce participants to the concept of cyberbullying, which is one of the major challenges facing societies in the modern era, especially with the widespread use of the internet and social media. The seminar covered several important aspects of this topic, providing a detailed explanation of cyberbullying, which involves threatening an individual with the publication of sensitive photos or information that could damage their reputation. Various types of cyberbullying were discussed, including individual, financial, and social bullying, which relies on threatening to expose personal life secrets.
The workshop also suggested several practical solutions, such as protecting privacy online, avoiding sharing personal information and photos with strangers, using strong passwords, enabling two-factor authentication, and being cautious of suspicious links and phishing emails.
The importance of seeking legal procedures when exposed to cyberbullying was emphasized, along with how to report cybercrimes to the relevant authorities and cooperate with security agencies to maintain personal safety.
Real-life cases were presented to illustrate the potential harms of cyberbullying, with an explanation on how to deal with such situations. At the end of the seminar, a dialogue session was held, allowing the students to ask questions, which helped raise awareness about the risks of cyberbullying and ways to prevent it, in addition to promoting a culture of cybersecurity.
