Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Girls, Professor Dr. Samira Naji Kazem, the Women’s Affairs Unit, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit, organized an awareness workshop titled Causes of Breast Cancer and How to Prevent It. The workshop was presented by the Head of the Women’s Affairs Unit and Director of the National Center for Cancer Research at the University of Baghdad, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kawakib Najm Al-Din.

The goal of the activity was to raise awareness among women about breast cancer, one of the most common types of cancer among women. The causes of the disease vary and include genetic, environmental, hormonal changes, aging, and the patient’s medical history, as well as lifestyle factors such as obesity, lack of physical activity, poor nutrition, and exposure to radiation in the chest area during medical treatments. The workshop also addressed prevention methods, including breast self-examination and regular clinical checks. It was recommended that women undergo mammograms starting at the age of 40 for early detection. The workshop emphasized the importance of following a healthy diet, exercising regularly, avoiding smoking and alcohol, breastfeeding, and seeking regular medical consultations.
