Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, Dean of the College of Science for Women – University of Baghdad, the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Mathematics, organized a workshop entitled “The Physical Applications of Conformal Mappings.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Nadia Mohammed Jawad Ibrahim, Dr. Ali Musaddaq Dalfi, and Dr. Farah Jawad Kazem.
The workshop addressed the principal types of conformal mappings, including Mobius transformations and the exponential mapping, explaining their mathematical formulations, properties, and applications in transforming circles, straight lines, and geometric grids.
The workshop also explored the applications of conformal mappings in fluid mechanics, a field concerned with studying the behavior of liquids and gases in both static and dynamic states, based on several fundamental physical principles. In addition, selected applications and mathematical solutions related to transformations between mathematical planes were presented.
The workshop concluded by emphasizing the importance of employing conformal mappings in physical applications and highlighting their role in enhancing scientific understanding of the relationship between mathematical concepts and physical and engineering applications.
