Under the patronage and in the presence of Prof. Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, Dean of the College of Science for Women, and in the presence of the Assistant Dean for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Salah Khairi Jaber, the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Biology, organized a workshop entitled “Maintenance of Laboratory Equipment Used in Immunological and Parasitological Tests” on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at the Advanced Parasitology Laboratory, with the participation of a number of faculty members and staff.

The workshop was presented by Dr. Ikhlas Musharaf Aidan and Dr. Zahraa Abdul-Rahim Ahmed. It addressed a number of scientific and practical topics related to the proper maintenance and upkeep of laboratory equipment, ensuring their efficiency and the accuracy of their results, thereby contributing to providing a safe and secure laboratory environment for students, researchers, and laboratory personnel.

The workshop aimed to strengthen the practical skills of undergraduate and postgraduate female students by providing practical information and guidance on the proper use of laboratory equipment and methods for maintaining and servicing them. It also introduced the necessary procedures for preventing problems and accidents that may occur during laboratory work, particularly those related to electrical power.

The workshop also emphasized the importance of adhering to the specified operating conditions of certain laboratory equipment, including incubators, which require specific temperature and humidity levels to ensure the reliability of tests and the accuracy of their results. It further highlighted the importance of protecting equipment from dust and dirt by covering them after the completion of laboratory work, training courses, or the academic semester.

The workshop also addressed the importance of using purified and filtered water in equipment containing water tubes and channels, in order to prevent the accumulation of salts and deposits that may cause blockages and adversely affect the efficiency and performance of the equipment.

The organization of this workshop reflects the College of Science for Women’s commitment to strengthening the scientific and practical skills of its female students, promoting laboratory safety awareness, preserving scientific equipment and instruments, and enhancing their efficient use and maintenance. These efforts contribute to supporting the quality of the educational and research processes at the college.
