Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, Dean of the College of Science for Women, and in the presence of the Assistant Deans, Heads of Scientific Departments, distinguished faculty members, staff, and female students, the College of Science for Women held a national ceremony on Sunday, October 4, 2026, to celebrate Iraqi Sovereignty Day. The event featured the raising of the Iraqi national flag by the college’s Girl Guides, in a scene that embodied pride in the homeland and steadfast commitment to its deeply rooted national identity.
This national gathering reaffirmed that the Iraqi flag is not merely a banner flying in the skies of the homeland; rather, it symbolizes Iraq’s history and the sacrifices of its people, represents the nation’s unity, dignity, and sovereignty, and embodies national values reflected in respect for the law, protection of institutions, dedication to work, a strong sense of responsibility, and the building of a future worthy of Iraq and its people.
The occasion was marked by a patriotic atmosphere that reflected feelings of pride and belonging, bringing together all members of the college community—faculty members, staff, and female students—as one family united by deeply rooted values that bring Iraqis together. Foremost among these values are national unity, tolerance, peaceful coexistence, respect for others, commitment, generosity, and working for the common good.
The College of Science for Women emphasized that celebrating national occasions constitutes an integral part of its educational and academic mission. The role of a university institution extends beyond imparting knowledge to fostering national awareness among students, strengthening their sense of responsibility and belonging, and preparing a generation that believes in the shared responsibility of building Iraq, recognizing that knowledge, hard work, and ethical values are fundamental pillars in the nation’s journey toward progress and prosperity.
