The University of Baghdad has achieved a new scientific and environmental accomplishment by securing 215th place globally among 2,016 universities participating in the 2026 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings for Sustainability. This achievement reflects the university’s continued progress and its expanding presence in international rankings concerned with sustainability and environmental protection.

This year’s edition of the ranking witnessed the participation of 2,016 universities from around the world, compared with 1,745 universities in the previous year, representing an increase of 271 universities. This growth reflects the increasing level of global competition and the growing commitment of universities to implementing sustainability standards across their campuses.

The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings are based on a set of indicators that assess universities’ commitment to sustainable practices. These indicators cover infrastructure and the campus environment, energy and climate change, waste and water management, sustainable transportation, as well as education and scientific research related to environmental and sustainability issues.

This achievement crowns the University of Baghdad’s ongoing efforts to consolidate the principles of sustainable development, develop a green campus environment, and promote sound environmental practices across its academic and administrative units. It also strengthens the university’s academic standing and aligns its performance with internationally recognized standards in the field of university sustainability.
