Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, Dean of the College of Science for Women, the Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Physics, organized a scientific workshop entitled “Radiation Pollution Risk Management and Safety Applications for the Protection of Human Health and the Environment.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Ruwaida Tariq Mahdi and Ms. Sla Sami Hamza.

The workshop aimed to highlight the risks associated with radiation pollution and its adverse effects on human health and the environment. It introduced participants to the principal natural and anthropogenic sources of radiation and explained the pathways through which radiation may spread within the surrounding environment. In addition, the workshop addressed modern approaches to radiation risk management, the preventive measures required to minimize radiation exposure, and internationally recognized radiation safety standards and their role in safeguarding individuals and institutions.

The presenters also discussed the practical implementation of radiation safety procedures and appropriate responses to emergencies involving radiation contamination. Furthermore, the workshop emphasized the importance of raising public awareness regarding adherence to radiation protection guidelines in order to preserve public health and ensure environmental safety.

The workshop concluded by emphasizing the importance of developing the knowledge and skills of students and researchers in the fields of radiation safety and environmental risk management. It highlighted the contribution of these competencies to advancing scientific research, improving the quality of academic studies, and promoting a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.
