The Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Physics and under the patronage of Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, Dean of the College of Science for Women, organized a workshop entitled “Medical Imaging.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Atheer Qasim Maryoush and Ms. Israa Razzaq Suwadi. It was held in the College’s Guest Hall and attended by a number of faculty members, administrative staff, and students.

The workshop addressed the concept of medical imaging as one of the most significant modern technologies employed in disease diagnosis and patient health monitoring. It highlighted the use of various imaging modalities to produce detailed images of the body’s internal organs without the need for invasive surgical procedures.

The presenters discussed the major types of medical imaging, including X-ray imaging, which is widely used for detecting fractures and skeletal disorders; Computed Tomography (CT), which provides detailed cross-sectional images of the body and assists in diagnosing tumors and internal injuries; and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), which utilizes magnetic fields to produce high-resolution images of soft tissues, such as the brain and muscles.

The workshop also covered Ultrasound Imaging, a technique extensively used for pregnancy monitoring and the examination of internal organs, as well as Nuclear Medicine Imaging, which employs radioactive tracers to diagnose specific diseases, including cardiovascular and thyroid disorders.

Through a series of clinical case images and practical examples, the workshop demonstrated the diagnostic value of medical imaging technologies and emphasized their vital role in the early detection of diseases. Early diagnosis significantly enhances treatment outcomes, improves patient prognosis, and reduces the risk of complications. The workshop further stressed the importance of the safe operation of medical imaging equipment and adherence to established radiation safety standards and preventive protocols.

The event concluded with an engaging discussion session, during which participants actively contributed through questions and comments. The presenters responded to the inquiries, fostering a productive exchange of knowledge and reinforcing the educational objectives of the workshop.
