Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Scientific Affairs Division, in cooperation with the Department of Physics, organized a series of scientific workshops as part of the “Sustainable University Week” activities. These events were held within the framework of supporting academic initiatives aimed at promoting sustainability concepts and enhancing students’ research skills. The workshops took place in the Conference Hall on Sunday, 19 April 2026.

The events were attended by the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, the Head of the Department of Physics, a number of faculty members and staff, as well as students of the College. This broad participation reflected the growing interest in scientific activities that contribute to bridging theoretical knowledge with modern practical applications.

The program commenced with a workshop entitled “The Use of Polymers for Radiation Dosimetry,” presented by Dr. Ban Sabah Mohammed and Ms. Huda Mohammed Jaafar. The workshop highlighted the significance of polymeric materials in the accurate measurement of radiation doses and their applications in medical and industrial fields. It also reviewed the latest technologies employed in this vital area and discussed mechanisms for developing these materials to enhance dosimetric efficiency and reduce associated risks.

The second workshop, entitled “The Role of Nuclear Technology in Sustainable Development,” was presented by Dr. Maysaa Rabeea Naima and Ms. Sula Sami. The session focused on the peaceful applications of nuclear technology in various sectors, including energy, agriculture, medicine, and environmental protection. Furthermore, the workshop explored how nuclear technology can contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through improved resource efficiency and the reduction of adverse environmental impacts.

Both workshops featured scientific discussions and active contributions from attendees, reflecting their strong interest and desire to deepen their understanding of these important topics.

At the conclusion of the events, participants commended the efforts devoted to organizing these workshops and emphasized the importance of continuing such initiatives, which support scientific advancement and keep pace with contemporary developments across diverse academic disciplines.
