Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Scientific Affairs Division, in cooperation with the Department of Mathematics at the College of Science for Women, University of Baghdad, organized a workshop entitled “Major Depressive Disorder.” The workshop was presented by  Dr. Nadia Mohammed Jawad Ibrahim, Dr. Farah Jawad Kadhim, and  Dr. Ali Musaddaq Dalfi.

The workshop aimed to shed light on the concept of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) as one of the most prevalent psychological disorders affecting individuals and society. It addressed the principal causes and contributing factors associated with the disorder, including biological, psychological, and social determinants. In addition, the workshop reviewed the clinical symptoms of MDD and discussed contemporary scientific approaches to its diagnosis based on established diagnostic criteria.

Furthermore, the workshop explored the therapeutic strategies employed in the management of the disorder, including both psychotherapeutic and pharmacological interventions, while emphasizing the significant role of social support in improving the psychological well-being of affected individuals.

The workshop also included discussions of practical examples and case studies that contributed to a deeper understanding of the nature of the disorder and effective approaches to its management. Moreover, it highlighted the importance of psychological awareness and education in reducing the prevalence of depression and promoting mental health among students and the academic community.

The workshop concluded by emphasizing the importance of enhancing the skills and competencies of students and researchers in the field of mental health, as well as the role of such initiatives in supporting scientific research and improving the quality of academic and scientific studies.
