Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Physics, organized a scientific workshop entitled “The Use of Lasers in Medical Applications.” The workshop was presented by Ms. Rasha Saad Akram and Ms. Fadia Jabbar Alwan, with the attendance of a number of faculty members and students.
The workshop introduced the concept of laser technology, explaining its operating principles and the physical properties that distinguish it from other sources of light. It also provided an overview of the most significant medical applications of lasers, including their use in minimally invasive and precision surgical procedures, the treatment of dermatological conditions, vision correction, and their role in modern medical diagnostic techniques.
Furthermore, the workshop highlighted the major advantages of laser technology in healthcare, particularly its high precision, effectiveness, and ability to minimize collateral tissue damage and post-treatment complications. The presenters also discussed the potential challenges and risks associated with laser applications in medicine and emphasized the importance of adhering to scientifically established safety protocols and operational standards to ensure optimal outcomes.
The workshop concluded by emphasizing the importance of integrating advanced technologies such as lasers into the medical field, given their significant contribution to improving the quality of healthcare services. The presenters also highlighted the role of laser technology in supporting scientific research and fostering innovation across both the physical and medical sciences.
