Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Chemistry, organized a scientific workshop entitled “Fasting from a Chemical Perspective.” The workshop was presented by Ms. Sinan Abboud Mustafa, Ms. Samara Ali Mattar, and Ms. Shahd Kazem Taher, as part of the college’s scientific activities aimed at linking chemical concepts with real-life applications.
The workshop addressed the biochemical and chemical changes that occur in the human body during fasting, explaining the mechanisms of energy consumption and transformation within the body, as well as the role of metabolic processes in maintaining biological homeostasis. It also highlighted the effects of fasting on regulating blood glucose levels, stimulating detoxification processes, improving digestive system efficiency, and enhancing overall health.
Furthermore, the workshop emphasized the importance of applying chemical principles to understand everyday biological phenomena and their role in supporting scientific research and promoting health awareness among students and researchers.
The workshop concluded by underscoring the value of integrating chemistry with physiological processes to deepen scientific understanding and improve the quality of academic and health-related knowledge.
