Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Kdhim, the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Biology, organized a workshop entitled “Organic Agriculture: Promoting Health and Protecting the Environment.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Mushtaq Faraj Karoumi and Dr. Zainab Imran Salman.
The workshop aimed to highlight the importance of adopting organic farming practices as a safe and sustainable alternative to conventional agriculture. Particular emphasis was placed on the vital role of organic agriculture in producing food free from chemical contaminants, thereby safeguarding human health. The workshop also reviewed various biological and environmentally friendly techniques that contribute to maintaining ecological balance, enhancing soil fertility, and reducing harmful emissions associated with the use of synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilizers.
Furthermore, the workshop emphasized the broader environmental and public health benefits of organic agriculture, including its contribution to sustainable food systems and environmental conservation.
This workshop forms part of the College’s efforts to advance Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by promoting awareness of healthy food systems that help reduce diseases associated with chemical pollutants and support the creation of a clean and sustainable environment for future generations.
