A scientific course entitled “An Overview of Dye Chemistry and Its Chemical Effects” was organized under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim. The Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry, held the course, which was presented by Dr. Amal Samir Sadiq, Ms. Wasan Abdul Razzaq, and Ms. Tamadhar Ali Mahmoud. It was attended by a number of faculty members, students, and individuals interested in the field of chemistry.
The course introduced dye chemistry as an important branch of applied chemistry, with an explanation of the types of natural and synthetic dyes and their chemical properties, as well as their mechanisms of interaction with various materials that give rise to characteristic coloration. It also highlighted the chemical structures of dyes and how they interact with fibers and other substances, in addition to examining their various effects in both industrial and environmental contexts.
Furthermore, the course reviewed the main applications of dyes in the textile, food, and pharmaceutical industries. It also addressed certain health and environmental impacts resulting from their misuse or exposure, and discussed safe handling practices aimed at minimizing their adverse effects.
The course concluded by emphasizing the importance of developing the skills of students and researchers in the field of dye chemistry, and its role in supporting scientific research and enhancing the quality of industrial and scientific applications.
