Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Scientific Affairs Division, in cooperation with the Department of Chemistry, organized a workshop entitled “Drugs: Types and Their Impact on Women.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Shaimaa Rajab Baqir and Ms. Sura Khalil Ibrahim. It was held in the Rehabilitation and Employment Hall, with the attendance of a number of faculty members, staff, and female students.

The workshop aimed to highlight the risks associated with various types of drugs and their negative effects on women’s physical, psychological, and social health, in addition to identifying the underlying causes of the spread of this phenomenon and exploring ways to mitigate it.

The workshop included several scientific themes, addressing the definition and classification of drugs, as well as their effects on the nervous system and various bodily functions. It further examined the specific harms inflicted on women as a result of drug use, including its impact on health and psychological and social stability. The workshop also discussed the role of family and community awareness in preventing this phenomenon, along with strategies for promoting healthy behaviors among young people.

The workshop witnessed notable engagement from the attendees, with numerous questions and contributions addressed by the presenters. Emphasis was placed on the importance of raising awareness about the dangers of drug use within the academic community.

At the conclusion of the workshop, the organizers recommended intensifying awareness and educational programs, and strengthening the role of educational institutions in combating drug abuse, in order to safeguard public health and foster a safe environment.
