Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim , the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Physics, organized a scientific workshop entitled “Good Paraphrasing Techniques” on Sunday, March 8, 2026, in the Abdul Hakim Hall, with the attendance of a number of faculty members, staff, and students.
The workshop was presented by Ms. Amna Firas Hamid, who highlighted the concept of paraphrasing as an important academic method in scientific and research writing. During the workshop, the correct techniques for paraphrasing texts were explained while preserving the original meaning and avoiding plagiarism, which constitutes one of the fundamental pillars in the preparation of research papers and academic theses.
The workshop addressed several recognized paraphrasing techniques, such as using appropriate synonyms, modifying sentence structure, reorganizing ideas, and converting sentences into the passive voice when necessary. These approaches contribute to giving the text a more formal scientific tone, widely used in academic writing. The workshop aimed to develop the academic writing skills of faculty members and students, and to enhance their ability to paraphrase scientific sources correctly in a manner that maintains academic integrity and supports the quality of research and studies.
At the conclusion of the workshop, the floor was opened for discussion and interventions, during which several questions were raised regarding best practices in paraphrasing and methods for avoiding textual similarity. These questions were addressed in a way that enriched the workshop and achieved the intended benefit for the participants.
