Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim , the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Physics, organized a training course entitled “Vision Examination” in Abdul Hakim Hall. The course was attended by a number of faculty members, staff, and female students of the College on Monday, 16 February 2026.
This course was held within the framework of the Continuing Education Unit’s and the Department’s efforts to promote health culture and raise awareness of the importance of regular medical examinations. The course was presented by Dr. Atheer Qasim Maryoush, Dr. Ashwaq Tariq Dahham, and Ms. Iman Kazem Jabr. The lectures began by clarifying the objectives of the course, namely highlighting the importance of periodic vision examinations for the early detection of common visual problems such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism, in addition to identifying the main causes of visual impairment and methods of prevention.
The course included a detailed explanation of the physical structure of the visual mechanism and the process of image formation on the retina, with clarification of the role of medical lenses in correcting refractive errors. This was presented based on the scientific and physical principles related to light refraction and corrective lenses. Throughout the course, participants actively engaged in discussions, and their inquiries were addressed and clarified by the organizers of the activity.
