Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Prof. Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim , the Scientific Affairs Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Mathematics, held a specialized workshop entitled “Awareness of Aortic Dissection.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Nanadia Mohammed Jawad Ibrahim, Dr. Farah Jawad Kazem, and Dr. Rafid Hamid.

The workshop commenced with a comprehensive scientific introduction to the aorta and its vital functions, explaining its role in pumping blood from the heart to all parts of the body. The presenters also addressed the principal causes leading to aortic dissection, such as hypertension, hereditary disorders, and atherosclerosis, in addition to outlining early symptoms that may facilitate the timely diagnosis of high-risk cases.

Furthermore, the workshop discussed preventive aspects by offering practical advice and guidelines for maintaining cardiovascular health, with an emphasis on adopting a healthy lifestyle that includes balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, and periodic medical follow-up. The lecturers also reviewed the latest available diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, providing practical examples of medically managed cases to help avert potential risks.

The workshop included an interactive session that allowed attendees to raise scientific and medical questions. Methods of community awareness were also discussed to disseminate accurate information among students and faculty members, with the aim of enhancing health awareness within the university community. The workshop concluded by emphasizing the vital role of health education in preventing aortic dissection and the importance of regular health monitoring, underscoring that the dissemination of health culture and risk awareness represents the optimal approach to safeguarding individual and societal health. The event concluded with participants benefiting both practically and scientifically from the knowledge gained.
